Directions to Mount Washington – Getting to Mount Washington Alpine Resort

 

Mount Washington Alpine Resort boasts one of the most spectacular coastal alpine settings in North America. Located in an enviable geographic location on the West Coast of British Columbia. Vancouver Islands’ all-season Alpine Resort, Mount Washington borders Strathcona Provincial Park and the Beaufort Mountains to the west and the Georgia Straight to the east. Mount Washington is located mid Island, 25km west of the Comox Valley, 50 km south of Campbell River and 100km north of Nanaimo and an easy 3.5 hours drive from BC’s capital, Victoria, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

Getting to Mount Washington Alpine Resort could not be easier with a choice of international gateways to Vancouver Island. Once on the island, the mountain is only a short scenic drive away on paved highways, regardless of whether you arrived by air, sea or train.

BY AIR

The Comox Valley Aiport (YQQ) is a full service airport accommodating passenger jets. Comox Airport offers regular scheduled direct daily flights from Calgary International Aiprort, Edmonton International Airport and Vancouver International Airport serviced by WestJet, Central Mountain Air (Air Canada affiliate) and Pacific Coastal Airlines. The airport is located within an easy 30 minute scenic drive of the mountain, with a convenient door to door shuttle service offered by Ambassador Shuttle Service.

Driving from Comox Airport – turn right at the airport entrance onto Knight Rd then right at the intersection onto Military Row (follow for approximately 2 km). Turn left at the stop sign onto Ryan Rd then continue on to the end. Turn left at the lights onto Hwy 19A and follow over the bridge to Cliffe Ave. Turn right at Cliffe Ave and follow to end and then turn right on 1st St. Take the next left onto Condensory Rd (Anderton Ave). Follow Condensory Rd to Piercy Rd. Turn left onto Piercy Rd and follow this to Hwy #19. Turn right onto Hwy #19. Turn left at the lights (Exit #130) and follow Strathcona Parkway up the mountain for 18 km’s. Mount Washington Alpine Resort is located at the end of Strathcona Parkway.

Campbell River Airport (YBL) offers regular daily scheduled flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) as well as seasonal seaplane flights from Seattle by Kenmore Air and is only 45 minutes from the mountain.

BY FERRY

Independent travellers or coach parties arriving by car from mainland BC can travel with BC Ferries, taking either the Tsawwassen to Duke Point route if travelling from the Airport or South Vancouver, or the Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay route if travelling from the North Vancouver area taking the Trans Canada Route 1.

If visiting Mount Washington from the USA, the COHO Ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria is a popular scenic ferry route and the 3.5 hour drive from Victoria to Mount Washington will give you an insight into life on Vancouver Island.

BY CAR

Car Rentals can be aranged and picked up at both aiports making this an easy and quick gateway to the mountain and all that the North Central Island region has to offer.

Mount Washington Alpine Resort is easily accessible by car on a paved all season road. This well maintained paved two lane highway (Strathcona Parkway) is accessed from Exit 130 – the Mount Washington/Dove Creek junction on Highway 19 – and takes visitors all the way up to the resort day parking facilities (approximately 18kms from the turn off) and the various allocated overnight parking lots for guests staying in the village. Located 25km west of the Comox Valley, 50km south of Campbell River and 100km north of Nanaimo, Mount Washington is a popular choice for day visitors and local residents. For first time visitors to Vancouver Island, travelling by car could not be easier – regardless of where your starting point is, head for Highway 19 (known locally as the Inland Island Highway) and travel north if you are starting your journey from Victoria, Departure Bay or Duke Point. Travel south if you are starting your journey from Campbell River Airport or a location further north. If you have time on your hands, take the scenic “Oceanside Route” and following the 19a (the Old Island Highway) signs until you see the signs for Mount Washington.

BY BUS

There is a daily bus service through Island Coachlines that connects all parts of Vancouver Island with the mainland, located in Courtenay at Suite 9-2663 Kilpatrick Ave. For schedules call: 250 334 2475. Once on the Island, Smith Transportation Ltd. and Wilson Transport offer daily bus services to the mountain during the winter ski season.
